Rebranding Figure 8 Skate Specialists
The goal of this project was to modernize the brand identity of Figure 8 Skate Specialists, a local Ottawa skating goods store, to attract both ice sports enthusiasts and their potential guardians. By conducting thorough research on the existing audience and competition, I aimed to create a modern, engaging visual identity that appeals to the target demographic and enhances the store's market presence, while maintaining the original name.
Project Process
From Concept to Completion
The rebranding process for Figure 8 Skate Specialists began with rough sketches and brainstorming to explore imagery and colours related to ice sports. I chose three strong concepts to develop into black and white variations, which the client reviewed. After choosing their favourites, I created at least six colour options for each design, displayed against both black and white backgrounds for versatility.
I then presented the strongest versions for final selection, ensuring the designs aligned with the client’s vision. The process involved experimentation and revision, ultimately leading to a cohesive brand redesign. Once the logo and colour palette were finalized, I moved on to creating the design brief and stationery. Regular check-ins kept the client informed and engaged, and the project was completed on schedule. This resulted in a brand identity that met the client's expectations.
Successful Rebranding: A Clear Creative Journey
The final project represented a significant improvement over the previous design, effectively capturing the spirit of Figure 8 Skate Specialists. The client expressed satisfaction with the outcome, and I was equally pleased with the result. The clarity of the creative process and the thoughtful approach taken throughout contributed to a strong collaboration, strengthening the brand identity and establishing a solid foundation for future growth and connection with the target audience.
